Danish Christmas Lunch at Inari Glean

Have you ever thought about celebrating Christmas like Danes, whilst being in Japan?

On the 5th and 6th of December Inari Glean, located in the heart of Osaka, hosted a super unique event! A Danish Christmas lunch. Alex who also hosted the event last year and the Danish Summer food event, in July, decided to take the event a step even further and baked the ryebread from scratch. Not only were there served fresh ryebread but the lovely people participating at the event also tried homemade Danish pate, marinated herring and flødeboller (Danish dream puffs).

The event were made as a collaboration between Inari Glean and Alex and Toki’s YouTube channel Dining with Alex.
You can check out the video below to see what the atmosphere was like at the event and get a feeling of a what it is like when “hygge” comes to Japan for Christmas 😀

Menu:
Ryebread w. marinated herring, onion, dill, radish
Ryebread w. salami, remoulade, fried onion, cress
Ryebread w. egg salad, bacon, cress, spring onions, radish
Ryebread w. Danish liver pate, bacon, mushrooms, pickled beets
Ryebread w. cod fillet, lemon, remoulade, tomato, dill
White bread w. shrimps, egg, mayonnaise, dill
Dessert: Homemade flødeboller (Danish dream puffs)

The menu mostly consisted of Danish open sandwiches which is a thing the Danes almost eat as much as the Japanese eat rice. If you haven’t already tried open sandwiches first-hand then I’d really recommend you to give it a try next time you have the opportunity, maybe here, at Inari Glean during the next Danish event! 🙂

After all the food then we played a traditional Danish Christmas game called “pakkeleg” where the participants could release their inner child and play to get as many presents as possible. A some point in the game you are even allowed to take presents from the other participants. Laughter and a good time were shared which is something much needed in this time. You can check out the pictures from the events below.

Gotta love a good cup of coffee from Inari Glean 🙂
Presents awaiting to be taken by the participants during the pakkeleg 😀

At some point in the game you even take presents from other participants which is part of the fun!
Even when giving away a present some manage to do it with a smile 🙂
